How to get involved?

There are many ways that lead to "RW"

Since Radio Worldwide is a ministry of WEC-International, we are following the same recruiting procedures as other WEC departments. Have a look at the following options, and tell us how you would fit in best.

WEC Trek

(short term teams and individual placements up to a year)

On this programme, individuals and teams get involved with long-term missionaries in evangelism, practical work and language learning. Our goal is to help you discover what is involved in sharing Christ cross-culturally and to find your role in reaching the unreached. Everyone going on WEC Trek completes a short orientation course before their placement and a debriefing afterwards.

For more information, go to the WEC Trek site

Task

The assignment normally begins with one of our short courses in Radio Programme Production. The volunteer is then assigned a role in the team according to his or her gifts and abilities. This may include writing, production, web design, engineering, music production, or Administration. One morning each week is given to practical work, which may include decorating, gardening or maintenance.

Costs

Radio Worldwide provides rent-free accommodation, but no salary. We estimate that you need around about £250 per month to cover food, heating, and other expenses.

WEC Workers

WEC is looking for people who:

  • love the Lord Jesus Christ
  • believe the Bible
  • show maturity of character
  • have a desire to share Jesus with others
  • want to reach unreached peoples
  • be flexible enough to adapt to others
  • trust God in every situation

Placements in either the UK or abroad are available from 18 months through to long term.

Application Procedure

We expect applicants to have demonstrated a desire to serve God in their local churches. Contact is made with the applicant's home church as soon as formal enquiry is made. Once it is clear that the church's leadership is sympathetic and supportive, we involve them in the whole selection process.

New workers spend at least two months on a residential orientation programme. During this period you are responsible to the Candidate Directors, who keep the sending churches informed of progress.

The programme orients you to the WEC ethos and how we operate. It includes time to research your future area of service, confirm your calling and build relationships with WEC members. It is more spiritual and relational than academic, but it is also an opportunity to learn vital practical lessons from experienced missionaries.

Review

A comprehensive review is held after two years. If you wish to stay on, one option (with the approval of your leaders) is to stay for a third year and then finish. If you wish to continue long term in WEC and have shown yourself able to contribute to the ministry of the field, the review will be a time when any further training needs will be discussed.

Theological Training

WEC is committed to ensuring that all of our workers are adequately trained for their ministry. WEC has five colleges around the world. Our English medium colleges in New Zealand and The Netherlands offer two year programmes; that in Australia also offers longer degree courses.

If you have some Bible training already, our World Mission Training Centre in Canada offers a special one year programme in missions.

For those going overseas as professionals, adequate training is essential and sometimes upgrading of skills is needed as many countries now require a high level of professional training and expertise.
