Akanksha Listeners' Letters

Regular Response

Ever since this series began we have received between 100 and 170 letters a month. Some listeners share their experiences of knowing the Lord personally and others ask for prayer. Below are some typical prayer requests, but there are many others in similar situations who are crying out for help. We invite you to join with us in praying for them.

Each letter is answered personally by our Indian co-worker Benjamin Nathaniel, before being forwarded to RW. Over the years we have found different ways of encouraging the listeners through:

  • Letter Writing
  • Giving a special Hindi magazine
  • Giving a New Testament
  • Providing a Hindi reading plan for the year
  • Providing a pocket calender advertising the programme
  • Providing Cassettes for special occasions

'I am very restless and have no peace of mind. I have no interest in reading the Bible. There are many problems in our family. Please pray for us.'
Mr Ashisan Purty

Pray that the Lord will meet this young man in a fresh way and give him peace and power to deal with every situation.

'Please pray that God Himself would provide a life-partner for me.'
Miss Vidyawati Toppo

For an Indian girl it is important to be married, but for a Christian to find the right kind of person as a life partner is not always easy. Vidyawati has expressed her desire for us to stand with her in prayer

'Please pray for me. I'm scared at night ... scared of Satan and serpents.'
Miss Minati Kumari Sarkar

Minati is about 16 or 17 years old. We can use the authority given by the Lord to tread upon serpents and scorpions and release her from such torment (see Luke 10:19). This is spiritual warfare!

'You prayed that the Lord would call me to be a preacher and that's what He has done. There are many villages around here where the gospel was never ever preached. I go and preach there. I face a lot of opposition and persecution. My other two brothers are also involved in the Lord's work. We are all young folks but we trust that as the Lord used His disciples to proclaim the good news, He will use us too. Please pray for us.'
Mr Vasava Jitendra Jaipal

Persecution is fiercer in some States of India than in others. In spite of persecution and opposition Vasava and his two brothers are daringly going out into the surrounding villages of Gujarat to share the good news. They need our prayer support

'As you know I am a soldier in the army but I also preach the good news with others. Please send me some literature so that I can share it with other soldiers, especially those who are lying wounded in the hospital.'
Sub-Major P. Bhuinya

A Subedar-Major is keen to share his faith with other army personnel on the front lines. In India it's not always easy to get hold of good Christian literature. Pray that this man is able to get the tools he needs and that they will be a blessing to others.

'I am a farmer. In spite of terrible heat we had to continue to work, otherwise our children would starve to death. I've done 30 Bible Correspondence courses and have come to know the Lord. I want to go to a Bible college to be equipped to serve Him. Please organise something for me.'
Mr Ravendra Singh Yadav

Ravendra comes from a Hindu background but has now committed his life to the Lord. For such people life is not easy, but with God's help and our prayers, he can see God's purpose fulfilled in his life.

'Just as the food is for the hungry and water for the thirsty, so are your Akanksha programmes for us. We enjoy them immensely. We obtain spiritual knowledge and learn knew things. Because of your prayers our daughter, Olive, passed her 8th grade exams. Thanks be to God and to you all.'
Mr S. Tandi

Sometime back a young girl called Olive wrote that, because of the family situation, she could hardly study and would not make it in her exams. How encouraging to hear this time from her father that because of our prayers she passed with flying colours.

'I pray to the Lord that the programme 'Akanksha' will reach millions of people who would listen to the good news of the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved. Salvation would come to their homes.'
Gerald Joseph, Madhya Pradesh

How encouraging it is to know that not only are listeners asking us to pray for them but that they are taking it upon themselves to pray for each other.
